Spreading Awareness on Disaster Management

Disasters, be they natural or man-made, pose significant threats to lives and properties,  emphasising the need for heightened awareness and preparedness. A recent initiative aimed for students of classes III to VIII to enhance disaster management understanding. The programme included a video presentation illustrating various disaster scenarios and emphasised remaining calm, following evacuation procedures, and seeking help during emergencies. Interactive sessions encouraged student engagement, while teachers highlighted the importance of preparedness plans and evacuation maps. Evacuation maps were prominently displayed in classrooms for easy reference. The programme successfully increased students’ awareness of disaster management, fostering a sense of community engagement and responsibility. It underscored the collective effort needed for everyone’s safety within school premises. Going forward, regular drills and ongoing education initiatives are recommended to reinforce preparedness concepts and ensure sustained resilience.
